We have received confirmation that the Niwot area will be included in Xcel Energy’s planned Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) beginning at 5:00 a.m. tomorrow due to forecasted high winds. As a result, Niwot Elementary and Niwot High School will be without power. Other schools in St. Vrain are not impacted by Xcel’s planned Public Safety Power Shutoff.
For the safety of our students and staff, we will be canceling school tomorrow at both Niwot Elementary and Niwot High School. All after-school athletics and activities are also canceled, unless you hear otherwise from your coach or athletic director. This includes Community Schools childcare.
Information for Niwot High School Families Regarding Finals
We understand this closure impacts finals for Blocks 4 and 8. Impacted students will have two options. Students may choose to freeze their grade and not take the final. If a student had hoped to take the final to raise their grade, they may make arrangements with their teacher to do so after winter break. Please note that some IB and AP teachers may require students to take the final and will provide class time after winter break to complete testing. Your student's teacher will communicate individually with your student regarding their options for completing their finals.
Please be aware that even after the wind is no longer a threat, it may take Xcel Energy hours to days to restore power. We will continue to monitor conditions and communicate any updates regarding school operations for the remainder of the week. Xcel is providing updates on their website and you can follow Boulder Emergency Management updates at https://boulderodm.gov/emergency-status.
Thank you for your understanding and flexibility. The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority.
