Bio

Hello Everyone! To begin, I want to express how excited I am to be a part of your child's education. It is very important to me that your child is comfortable and willing to risk their learning in my classroom. I strongly believe that children learn from their mistakes and I hope to provide a classroom environment that allows for that. For the past 5 years I have been the literacy teacher for readers in Kindergarten through 4th grade. As the literacy teacher I pull small groups of students to work on early literacy reading skills (phonemic awareness, phonics, and fluency). I am trained in the Orton Gillingham approach to literacy and I am a Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) specially trained to use a dyslexia curriculum called Take Flight.  I also use Fundations in my classroom combined with OG and Take Flight depending on the grade level I am instructing.

Students of today learn in a variety of ways (collaboratively, one on one, using technology, teacher guided) . It is my hope to provide many of these methods to your child. I have been teaching for over 19 years in a variety of grades including 2nd, 4th, and 5th grade all at Niwot Elementary. I truly love providing instruction and guidance to young students. Nothing is better than facilitating the learning of young minds. I am originally from the Seattle area and moved to Denver to attend Regis University. Upon graduating college I began my teaching career in the Denver Archdiocese for 2 years. Then taught in Jefferson County Public Schools for 4 years, all the while attending graduate school. I have a Master’s Degree in School Administration. I am married and have two sons that are both in college. I live in Westminster and in my spare time I spend time with two dogs that keep me very busy. I love tending to my yard, taking care of my dogs and being a mom, wife and teacher. If you need anything please don’t hesitate to contact me.
