Bio

About Your Teacher

I am a Colorado native, born in Sterling, but raised in Boulder.  I earned my Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  In my senior year, I completed an internship at Boulder County United Way and after graduation, I immediately started working there full time as the Communications Director.  I worked there for 10 years fundraising for 44 non profit organizations in Boulder County.  After United Way, I became a stay-at-home mom.  I hiked, rode horses (hunter jumper) and took care of my family.  I have 5 children.  I did a lot of driving children around to school, sports and music lessons.  I also volunteered at Douglass Elementary where my children attended school.  I became involved in fundraising for the school and I was on the School Accountability Committee (SAC).  I realized then how much I loved being in the school environment and decided that I wanted to pursue an elementary teaching credential.   I went back to school.  I received my teaching certification from the University of Colorado, Boulder as well as my Masters in Education.  Before I started the program, my family  moved to Edinburgh, Scotland for one year while my husband attended the University of Edinburgh for an advanced law degree.  This was an amazing experience for our family to say the very least. When I started my teaching career, I taught 5th grade as a student teacher at Douglass Elementary in Boulder.  Then I found Niwot!  This is my twelfth year teaching at Niwot Elementary and my seventh as a second grade teacher.  Before this I taught third grade. I really love the positive energy that fills the halls of Niwot Elementary.  Everyone is happy to be there!  I enjoy coming to work everyday and spending my time teaching. I even get to see two of my grandchildren who also attend our school. I feel fortunate to be a teacher and a part of the Niwot community.   My goal as a teacher is to build a classroom community that helps each child feel connected socially and emotionally as well as academically.  Building meaningful relationships is so important.  Everyone is different so it is important to connect to each student's individual needs and strengths.
