Bio

Hello Niwot Elementary community! I am very happy to be the back at Niwot Elementary for my 2nd year as the school counselor. My job is so special because I get to know all of the students here and get the opportunity to work with families as well to provide support as needed. As the school counselor I do monthly lessons in the classroom to support social/emotional learning, college/career exploration, and academics. At Niwot we use the Kelso’s Choice curriculum to help students build conflict resolution strategies and emotional management skills. Teachers also support social/emotional learning with our In Focus curriculum. Parents can reach out to myself or their child’s teacher if there are concerns that may require my help but students (especially as they get older) can also ask to speak to the counselor through their teacher. Sometimes students needs are best supported by an outside counselor or therapist and I can consult with families who are trying to make this decision. With a signed release of information by the parent or guardian of a student, I can work with the outside therapist to best support your student in school. If you are worried about your student and don’t know how to support them, please do not hesitate to contact myself or your student’s classroom teacher so we can help.

Now, a little bit about me: I have been working in counseling since 2008 and have a variety of experience working with different populations and in different settings. I received my B.S. in Psychology from University of Georgia and my M.S. in Counseling from Prescott College, concentrating in School Counseling and with an emphasis in Somatic Psychology. I spent four years working at an outdoor residential therapeutic program for teens as a direct care counselor/teacher and later as a family counselor. For the past three years I have worked with Mental Health Partners as a case manager with adults with serious mental illness. I have also worked as a technical trainer at a local credit union, volunteered as a wildland firefighter, and taught nutrition to kids K-12 in the public schools in Jacksonville, Florida.

Working with kids is my passion and I love being a part of the Niwot Community! I love the outdoors and spend a lot of my free time trail running, hiking, and biking. I am a registered yoga teacher and enjoy incorporating my somatic education into my work with kids and parents.

I am a half time employee at Niwot Elementary and half time at Alpine Elementary. I am at Niwot Monday mornings until about 11:30 and all day Tuesdays and Thursdays.
